DeserTech Appliance Service was established in 1989 when Lon and Lisa Marie Riddle decided to make the Coachella Valley, specifically La Quinta, their home.
Lon comes from a family in the appliance repair industry. Growing up, he helped in the family business, performing various administrative duties around the office and cleaning appliances brought in for shop repairs. As a teenager he assisted in the delivery and installation of appliances. As a matter of fact, one of his first solo projects was to install several appliances at a newly constructed house on Southridge Drive in Palm Springs (near Bob Hope’s house on the hill) in the early 80’s. Little did he know then that he and his wife would make this valley their home.
When DeserTech was formed, the valley was not nearly as populated and there were more part time residences as compared to today. At that time, DeserTech serviced all brands and types of major kitchen appliances.
During the building boom in the 90’s and 2000’s, high-end and European appliances were becoming the norm, and with this was born the demand for a service company capable of properly diagnosing and repairing these appliances. Lon was determined to make DeserTech Appliance Service that company and he continued to secure the warranty service contracts with manufacturers such as Sub-Zero*, Dacor, Miele, Scotsman, etc. In so doing, Lon ensured ongoing training on all the latest models, machines that increasingly contained more and more electronics requiring a higher level of diagnostic skill compared to appliances with older mechanical controls.
